| The European Youth Parliament
(EYP) is committed to its founding belief to provide an open forum
for discussion of the fundamental issues which surround an ever changing
and integrated Europe in the 21st Century.
Outreach visits are a key component of the work the EYP does in
the UK. Since 2004 EYPUK has been actively seeking to support schools
within the state sector to get involved in talking about European
issues and politics, and to encourage the involvement of schools
that would not have traditionally participated in such events
The main focus of the Outreach Programme is a ‘workshop’
scheme whereby members of the EYP alumni, most of whom are current
University students, will visit schools to use their own experiences
as young Europeans to facilitate small groups.
These visits usually last for approximately 1-2 hours, but we are
aware of the demands placed on school, teachers and pupils and can
be flexible to your needs. We at EYP are interested in being as
welcoming as possible because we are just as happy to visit as you
are to have us.
A typical workshop would involve the discussion of one key topic
of European debate, or coverage of several wider issues. The alumnus’
role would to ensure that the students feel comfortable discussing
the problems and solutions and to provide factual explanations upon
key terms and upon the roles of the European Institutions.
Rest assured EYP is not just a talking shop; we pride ourselves
on our ability to make European issues interesting through a wide
variety of different games, structured debates and tangible written
evidence of participation.
Aside from ‘Workshops’ we can arrange for EYP alumni
to provide a talk for a year group assembly, as an introductory
aid to the EYP in the UK or simply as a means to increase European
Awareness. EYP is ideally suited to fulfilling the demands of the
Citizenship programme and would be an excellent option for this
part of the curricula.
